Queens, a new ABC drama, centers on a band of women at a waterfront fashion brand under the watchful eye of its stylish and egotistical CEO, played by Nicole Kidman. Our review said that the series “is a lot better than the confused ‘Who’s the Boss?’ vibe suggests.”
Queens stars The Handmaid’s Tale’s Madeline Brewer as a rising star at the brand who also happens to be the lead singer in a band of black women from the streets called the Hustlers. (The group’s names also include: Starship, the Sky Girls, and Rock Savannah.) Felicity Huffman (American Crime) plays the head of the company and Sylvia Hoeks (House of Cards) plays the group’s business partner. Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) appears as their nemesis, an overbearing investor. (Also appearing is Anika Noni Rose of Empire.) Adam Rodriguez of the original Dallas is a new investor who doesn’t want a female-dominated team running a company he’s invested in. The series also stars Norbert Leo Butz (The People v. O.J. Simpson) as the male lead.
From co-creators and executive producers Regina King and Ali LeRoi, Queens will premiere on October 2.
