A Serbia team doctor is continuing to struggle after a break of several months to watch his son compete in basketball in the USA.
Raducanu kept himself occupied by regularly practising his penalty shoot-out winning kick during training with Manchester United in 2016.
When he told his manager afterwards that he intended to do the same in matches, United’s Paul Pogba suggested that the chance of him winning a title was about to change.
“Serbia coach Mladen Krstajic was very excited,” said Raducanu.
“I practised for a few days before one of the big matches for my son, and he was extremely happy that he was able to prepare for one of the biggest matches with his best player.”
A world champion, Pogba and Serbia came close to winning the Euro 2016 tournament before ultimately being beaten by Croatia in the semi-finals, and Raducanu added: “I’m very happy for him, for his achievements in club football and for making me competitive again.
“He made a lot of sacrifices to support my family and I have a lot of respect for him for that.”
