After a disappointing US Open 2017 qualifying campaign, the Williams sisters are preparing to miss the US Open in August.

Serena Williams is expecting her first child and intends to postpone her return to tennis until the summer of 2018. Meanwhile, Venus Williams is battling back from a series of illnesses.

Serena Williams missed out on qualifying for Wimbledon 2017, where she was expected to push for a seventh title. This year’s US Open, to be held in New York from August 27, is the last Grand Slam tournament before she returns.

“We all want to see the Williams sisters compete together again on the Tour,” said Andre Agassi in an interview with US broadcaster ESPN.

“As soon as we see something happen that has to do with one or both of them not competing, then I think you will know that we’re kind of together because that’s going to happen,” added Agassi.

“You can’t jump out and guess what’s happening, so I think we have to rely on each other for information, because neither one of them has given any indication, let alone spoken about it publicly, that they might be coming back.”
