1 arrested, 7 in custody after metro-area shoplifting spree

According to The San Francisco Chronicle , shoplifting suspects tried to break into a Louis Vuitton store at Union Square around 11 p.m. Friday.

Unable to break in, the suspects smashed window glass and proceeded to “consolidate the goods inside the shattered glass frame,” according to the Chronicle. Seven suspects then fled the scene in an off-duty police officer’s Cadillac.

The news comes on the heels of a South Street Seaport report that two suspects ran from the Mall of America and police Tuesday. Two accomplices, reportedly driving a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, stopped them and led the police on a chase until they rammed into a police squad car.

Seven suspects were arrested and attempted to carjack another vehicle at gunpoint, according to the sheriff’s office.

A spokesman for the sheriff’s office confirmed to CNN that one of the suspects still at large remains on the lam.

The seven in custody — two men, four women and a 16-year-old — are facing charges of carjacking, conspiracy, and possession of stolen property.
